The MCCI has pioneered the Tax Refund Service for more than 25 years with clear goals of creating values for operators. The Tax Refund Service also serves to promote Mauritius as an attractive tourist and shopping destination, while encouraging tax-free shopping for Departing Mauritians.

The MCCI operates a Tax Refund Counter at the SSR International Airport of Mauritius since August 1996. This service is also available at the Port, onboard cruise ships, since October 2012. The two main services offered are the refund of duty and the refund of Value Added Tax (VAT) paid on purchases made by Visitors holding a foreign passport. The MCCI also caters for the delivery of Tax-Free goods to Visitors and Mauritians prior to their departure from Mauritius.
